Ombudsman Program

Ombudsman is a Swedish term for "citizen advocate". The Ombudsman Program helps individuals residing in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, personal care homes and dom care homes resolve issues or concerns they may have about the quality of care they receive. The Ombudsman is a trained individual who serves as a resident advocate and works with residents and facility staff to promote quality of care and quality of life within the long-term care setting. The Ombudsman also provides information and education relating to "Resident Rights" and long-term care services.

Individuals who have a concern about the care or treatment they are receiving in a long-term care facility can call the Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman at 1-800-982-4346 (toll free). Ombudsman services are free and confidential.
